Janel Blake, MSW, LSW
Licensed Social Worker
For the past 25 years, I have worked with children and families in various roles in a school setting. My work on Child Study Teams as a Mental Health Clinician, Elementary School Counselor, and Anti-Bullying Specialist has helped me understand children and their daily challenges. I have worked closely with children coping with significant changes due to divorce and loss. I also have extensive experience working with children with ADHD, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, school avoidance, and behavioral challenges.
I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) by training and obtained my Master’s degree from New York University. Before that, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Northeastern University.
APPROACH TO THERAPY
I know that pursuing therapy is not easy; therefore, I want to help this process feel as safe and comfortable as possible for you and your child. Helping children involves working with the parents by providing psychoeducation, parent coaching, and developing effective behavior strategies.
Individual sessions with children are geared toward decreasing symptoms, improving emotional regulation, and increasing the child’s self-awareness and self-worth. I believe in teaching children concrete strategies to empower them to solve their own problems. I use evidence-based practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Strength Based approach, and Mind/Body connection.
As a mother of three, I know firsthand how it feels to witness your child hurting. We all possess the power to create change. My goal is to help you and your child make positive changes so they can feel confident, happier, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
I am a calm, nurturing person and am drawn to youth and their resilient nature. My passion is helping others overcome challenges to live a fulfilled life that exceeds their expectations.
